How to Build up your PSP Movie Library Without Spending a Fortune
Universal Media Disks (UMD)
I am sure you already know you can watch movies on your PSP.
Maybe you’ve even purchased some of those funny looking UMD disks
that Sony came out with exclusively for the PSP movie. While it
is nice that you have made this investment, it's expensive and
extremely limiting. Since the UMD disks are read only, you
can’t record anything on to them. This means you can only
watch movies made by Sony. The selection wasn’t very large
to begin with considering they only contained Sony releases but now
that some of the major studios have stopped releasing movies in this
format, the selection is really limited.
DVDs and Downloads
If you own DVDs and would like to have them on your PSP, you can do
this at little or no cost. In order to get your DVD to become a
PSP movie, you will first need a “DVD ripper” If you
search for them online you can find these for free. Then all you
need is video conversion software, which you can also get for free
online. Within a relatively short period of time you can have as
many DVDs as you want to watch on your PSP.
There are other ways to build up your PSP movie library also.
There are numerous sites online that offer either free or they may
charge a modest fee to download not only movies, but television shows,
documentaries, amateur video and any other kind of video you can think
of. Just by looking around at possible PSP movie downloads, I
came across a dog riding a bicycle in Japan, a documentary about 9/11
and the Dick Van Dyke show. All except the latter could be
downloaded for free and only a modest charge applied for the Dick Van
Dyke show.
Home Movies?
If you really want to get creative you can put your home movies on your
PSP. If you are like me you have a lot of home movies. For
this reason it is important to remember that you don’t have to
keep anything on your PSP any longer than you want to. In fact,
it will get quite expensive if you keep everything you are likely to
download. The good news about downloading a PSP movie is that you
can store it on your PC until you are ready for it and then transfer it
to your PSP.
Once you become comfortable with downloading and converting PSP movie
files, you will be able to easily exchange files between your memory
card and your PC. After a short while it will become second
nature to you - like tieing your shoes. You will just
choose what you want to have on your PSP at any given time and keep the
rest on your PC or if it’s not something you want to keep, dump
it altogether. Before long, you’ll have the biggest and the
best PSP movie library in town.
