Features of the PSP Console
The PSP console has such a rich set of features that I keep asking
myself, "How could something so powerful, so energized weigh a mere 9.9
ounces?" While the PSP console weighs less than a pound it is
power packed with heavy-duty hardware. Just look at these specs:
- built-in stereo speakers
- rechargeable lithium-ion battery
- battery charge of 3 - 6 hours
- average battery life of 4 hours
- USB 2.0 port
- infrared port
- Memory Stick PRO Duo slot
- wireless LAN capability
- 6.75 inches wide
In addition to the above specifications, the PSP console has a
beautiful 4.3 inch display screen. If you are worried about
learning to use another game system, fear not. The PSP and has
the standard PlayStation directional buttons on the left and the
shape buttons (triangle, circle, square and X) on the right. It has a
kind of joystick below the directional buttons but the difference is
that it’s not really a stick but a button.
The UMD drive is at the back of the PSP console. UMD stands for
Universal Media Disk and is Sony’s proprietary format that holds
games and movies for the PSP. Only Sony-released movies are
offered on the UMD disks and since they are read only, it can be quite
challenging to transfer video content to the PSP. It can be done
though as a search of the internet will show it is replete with audio
and video converters for just this purpose. It makes this sleek
black gadget even more beautiful when you can watch your favorite
movies anytime and anywhere.
It’s Finally Dropping In Price
Sony recently reduced the price of the PSP console from $250 to
$199. This will buy you the console, an AC adapter and the
battery pack. There are many other accessories available for the
PSP. Some are not only functional, they are pretty cool.
There are headphones with a remote control, a pouch and a wrist
strap. There are other important but not as existing accessories
such as the specially designed static-free cleaning cloths.
If you want to store videos, movies, music or games on your PSP console
you’ll need a Memory Stick Duo. If you buy a bundled valud
pack you should check if a Memory Stick Duo comes with it. It
used to but it may have changed. If it does come with the bundled
pack, check the memory size as it is usually just a 32MB Memory
Stick. If you plan on storing much content on your PSP,
you’ll need much more room. A search on the Internet will
get you some good prices.
The PSP console is not only functional and fun, it's cool to look at
too. It has enough personalization capabilities that there is no
need for any two to ever look alike. You can incorporate your
favorite wallpaper to be your PSP background or you can configure the
color of the PSP console to automatically change colors every month.
